EP Wall of Honor

Colonel Dean M. Hoffman IV hails from Enola, Pennsylvania.  An ROTC Scholarship winner, Dean graduated from Lycoming College in Williamsport Pa majoring in both Business Economics and Business Administration..  As a Field Artillery Officer, he served in a variety of positions to include Fire Support Officer (1/503rd IN, Korea), Executive Officer, Platoon Leader and Brigade Liaison Officer (210 FA, FT. Lewis).  Upon selection for Captain, he competed and was selected for Special Forces.  He served in the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as Operations Detachment Commander (Operation Joint Forge and Joint Guard, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Operation Joint Guardian, Kosovo) and Battalion S-4.     

In 2001, he became a Functional Area 51A, Program Manager and attended the Naval Postgraduate School where he graduated with a Master of Science in System Acquisition Management.  Upon graduation, MAJ Hoffman served as a Dismounted Warrior Branch Chief and Military Deputy for Human Factors and Integration Division in the Army Research Lab’s Human Research and Engineering Directorate. 

Upon completion of Command and General Staff College in September 2004, MAJ Hoffman served as Program Manager, Communication Intelligence and Sensor Systems under Program Executive Office, Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO IEW&S).  There he served as the Assistant Program Manager, (APM) Airborne Signals Collection Systems working in direct support of Special Operational Forces Special Mission Units.  After three years in that position, he went to work for the Rapid Equipping Force (REF).  At the REF, MAJ Hoffman initially served as APM for Operations and Test in direct support to the Asymmetric Warfare Group at Fort Meade where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Upon promotion, LTC Hoffman served in a variety of positions at the REF to include Product Manager (PdM), Rapid Improvement Initiatives, Operations Support Team Chief-Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Chief of Contracting.  He returned to PEO IEWS where he served as PdM, Manned Aerial Reconnaissance and Surveillance Systems and Chief of Staff.  COL Hoffman is a graduate of National Defense University’s Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.

COL Hoffman’s awards include Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal (AAM), National Defense Service Ribbon, Kosovo, Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Iraq, Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism, Service Ribbon, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, NATO Medal 2nd award, Expert Infantry Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge.  Other honors include Knowlton Award, Order of St. Michaels (Bronze) and Honorable Order of St. Barbara.  He is also a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Candidate.

COL Hoffman resides in Crofton, Maryland with his wife Angela, and two daughters, Meara (11) and Addison (8).  

Students could benefit and be greatly inspired by Colonel Hoffman’s dedication to his career. He is an outstanding example of a positive role model for all East Pennsboro students.  East Pennsboro is proud to induct Colonel Hoffman into the Panther Alumni Wall of Honor.
